The intent of this short course is to get you set up and prepared. Not only to pass but to be a competent, educated and safe firearms owner.
This course will go through, step by step what you need to do to apply for the licence, get the licence, and where to go from here.
Hopefully, along the way, you learn a thing or two as well!
When you apply for a licence, you will be assessed for your suitability to own and use firearms. It’s a big responsibility. As I often say to people, firearms owners are some of the few people in New Zealand that have officially been recognised as ‘fit and proper people’ by the New Zealand Police and Government.
You can work through this course while getting the application process underway.
The application process has increased in size and complexity. Significantly. However, there are no trick questions, and it’s a process, not hard, but a process. If you are someone who is suitable to have a firearms licence and can meet all the requirements, then it is simply a case of going through each step.
If you are applying for your licence the first time, it will be valid for a duration of five years – so – a bit of your time now, for five years of firearms licence is a small investment in the larger scheme of things.
